Forum Makeover: What do you want to see?

As the forums reach their 1,000th post I am starting to realize that they're in need of a pretty big overhaul.  There are a lot of sections that just aren't being used and even more sections that could be overhauled to be of better use and make information much more accessible and easy to sift through.

So my question to you gentle reader is this: What would you like to see on the forums?  Is there a specific section that you'd like to see?  Are there different features that you would use?

Let me know if the form of a comment and I will do what I can to make these forums something to be proud of.

Too much organization would create empty or underused areas...

If you check out this:
http://www.susans.org/forums/index.php

you can see a very good example of having way too much going on.

Best thing to do is keep it simple.

and the winner is...

I don't look at the forums often, but something I dislike about them is that it's stuck in the middle of a 3 column fixed-width page design, making the forums thin and harder to read. Most sites that I have seen which have forums, don't incorporate them into the main page layout. If they do, it might have the same header, and that's it.

I'm not really a fan of things like joomla and wordpress, and I don't know what technical limitations there are, but is it at all possible to either have the columns removed while on the forums, or separate the forums from the regular joomla page design completely, while still maintaining the same account system?

extreme makeover: grishno edition? maybe just more organized, like subfolders within topics... say like for example
forums ->
general -> movies
-> music
-> etc.
trans -> ftm
-> mtf -> girly chit chat
-> stories -> "the time i ate a pizza..."
-> coming out etc
-> thoughts -> rants
-> opinions
-> kittens -> cute kittens
-> not so cute kittens -> "my cat is crazy!"
other -> jokes
-> links
-> tasty snacks
grishno -> site news
-> youtube
-> grishno's hairdo
etc.
and as there are more and more posts the forums could branch out into more a web of ideas... just some thoughts, chaos theories and ramblings...
