Transitioning genders can place a heavy burden on family relationships, especially when religious views are involved. For seven years I tried to make it work with my family, faithful members of the Mormon church, but in 2011 I couldn't take it anymore, and I cut ties with my family. This was one of the hardest decisions that I'd ever had to make, and I captured why it's so important in a YouTube Video.
In 2014, after several years of not speaking, I got a text from my mom asking "Can we talk?" We started slow, and by the time Christmas came around it was going well enough that I felt comfortable going home. I captured the entire experience in a 5 part mini-series on YouTube.
